TourEdge Custom Fitting Modern club design has come on in leaps and bounds in the last few years, with the single goal of making the game easier and more enjoyable. Club fitting plays a pivotal role in making this technology all the more effective.
The road to better golf has two lanes. While the left lane - tuition - will get you safely to where you want to go, it's only by pulling into the right lane - custom fitting - that you can put your foot down, pick up the pace, and release your swing's full potential.

The process of custom fitting is very much based on feedback from the golfer, I then utilise specialist equipment to convert this feedback into numbers, which I then use my expertise to 'decode' to find you the right club setup.

As with all trades, the better the equipment is, the more precisely I can fit you to your clubs. And, with Tour Edge's Variable Fit Cart, I can do the best possible job fitting you with a solution that will last you for years to come.

The Tour Edge Variable Fit Cart system consolidates a variety of Drivers, Fairway Woods, and Irons into a new system that delivers quick, accurate results. The cart allows me to fit Woods and Irons by interchanging shafts and heads, comparing ball flights and giving me the opportunity to 'fine tune' and find you the perfect setup.

Club fitting is a systematic process and involves the expertise of both the club fitter and the feedback of the player. When fitting, objectives can be broken up into 5 categories: DISTANCE, ACCURACY, TRAJECTORY, CONSISTENCY and FEEL. Precise club fitment can have a profound degree on each of the factors.

This is how a 'run of the mill' club fitting would work:

STEP 1 - EQUIPMENT EVALUATION

You can't know where you want to go until you know where you've been and where you are now, so the fitting process begins by analysing your current equipment. By measuring the lofts, lie angles, shaft weights, lengths, flexes, grip thickness and even looking at where the wear is on the face and sole of the set; we can identify possible root causes of some problems.

STEP 2 - INTERVIEW

Like a physician analysing a patient's symptoms I need to know 'where it hurts'. By breaking down the set into parts (Woods, Irons, Wedges etc) we can then see if there are any trends or inconsistencies, where the weaknesses lie, any favouritism or dislike for particular clubs or shots and from there identify which of the 5 factors you want to improve.

Matching your clubs to your
static measurements is
fundamental to custom fitting
STEP 3 - PLAYER ANALYSIS

The "Static" measurements of the player are first recorded; the distance from wrist to floor and hand size. Then, I'll measure your swing in terms of speed with different clubs. While you're hitting balls I can record and analyse your angle of attack, spin generated, launch angle and ball speed from the clubface - all of which I'll combine with my own 'swing evaluation' (coordination, tempo, transition, wrist release etc) to get a good idea of the makeup of the initial 'test' set.

STEP 4 & 5 - SET MAKEUP & TESTING

This is where tools such as Tour Edge's Variable FIT system come to the fore. Because I can easily interchange numerous heads, shafts and grips it's a quick and simple task for me to put together a preliminary set makeup until I get the desired result. From there the specs are reviewed and altered as needed until we have a final 'test' club.

allows for quick shaft interchanges.
STEP 6 - FOLLOW UP

A little while after the test club is made up you will have the opportunity to come back and report on your progress and, if needed, I can then make some final 'working' changes. Once we're both happy with these specs they are sent to Tour Edge where they will put together your custom set and a few weeks later - voila! - your brand new custom fitted clubs arrive.

Your swing, your stance, your enjoyment of the game and - vitally - your score can change dramatically thanks to properly fitted clubs. Below are the five aspects of a golfer's game that I look to improve every time I fit a player.

If you have problems in any of the above areas then you'll benefit from a club fitting. Bring in your current set of clubs and I'll be able to analyse them and recommend where and how changes can be made.
